Mary Jean Barta

Mary Jean Barta, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 11, 2017. Born in Akron on February 23, 1930 to the late Nick and Rose Polera, Jean was a graduate of St. Mary High School. She was a faithful and active parishioner at St. Paul Parish for over 60 years, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Jean was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #3410 Ladies Auxiliary. She worked for many years as a caterer for Barta-Mileski Catering and the Acme Co. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Johann 'Jack' in 2002; daughter Johanna 'Sue' Knepp; grandson Anthony Barta; brother John Polera; step-mother Annie Polera. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Johann 'Joe' & Mary Ann Barta; grandchildren and their spouses Ashley & Thomas Piper, Brittany & Joshua Baur, and Gregory Knepp & Brittany Crow; great-grandchildren Annabelle, Otto, Olivia, Gregory, Alannah, & Khloe. The family will receive friends on Thursday, 4-8 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Matthew Pfeiffer on Friday, 10 am, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. Akron, OH 44301. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Memorials can be made to the St. Paul Building Fund.
