Martin J. Savula, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Akron City Hospital.
Martin was born on November 11, 1931 to the late John and Mary Savula and was a lifelong area resident. He set numerous records in Track & Field during his time at East High School. He was a Navy veteran, serving 4 years during the Korean Conflict on the USS Nereus. Martin worked in the Blacksmith Shop at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 27 years. He was a member of The Chapel on Fir Hill, and was also a member of the Masons.
Martin is survived by his wife Barbara Ann (Koval); children Marta Savula, Michael (Debbie) Savula, Marie (Tim) Smith, & Matthew (Kim) Savula; grandchildren Stephanie, Michael & Maximilian Savula; sister Betty (Virgil) Tarlton; and niece Dianne Paton.
The family is grateful to the doctors & staff at Akron City/Summa Hospital and the palliative care unit for their compassionate care of Martin in his final days.
The family will receive friends and relatives TODAY, Friday September 18 from 6-8 PM at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St, in Akron. A funeral service will be celebrated TOMORROW, Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10AM. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
