Martha A. Vanca

Martha A. Vanca of Akron, Ohio passed away on March 25, 2018.
Born December 13, 1927 to Alfred and Emelie Carlson, she was the youngest of 3 children. Martha graduated from East High School and met her future husband while working for East Akron Nash. Martha retired from the Akron Board of Education in 1993 where she worked as an account clerk. A current member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Akron, she shared her time in the bingo kitchen and her talents as a cookie elf. She also currently volunteered for Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospice. As a previous member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Martha volunteered in the old school cafeteria and school office; later she actively worked the bingo kitchen pop and snack stand. Always smiling, Martha too served as a Friend of Kenmore Branch Library and Library Shop on Main volunteer. Martha loved crocheting, knitting, baking, bowling and gardening.
Martha is survived by daughter, Lynn Vanca; along with nephews and nieces, Robert, Nancy, Maureen, Al and Richard. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Vincent J. Vanca, Jr.; parents; and siblings. The family extends gratitude to the staff of Summa Akron City ICU and Palliative Care Units.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
