Mark W. Shaw, 59, passed away on March 2, 2022 of Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. He entered this world on January 23, 1963 in Joliet, IL, born to Linda (Shelton) and Danny Shaw. Mark was raised in Centralia, Illinois by his mother, Linda. His paternal grandparents, Bob and Veneta Shaw, were a loving support in his life with his grandfather, Bob, being an important male influence.
Mark graduated from Centralia High School in 1981. He excelled at sports and lettered in track, football and wrestled at a college level. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelors degree in marketing in 1986. While in college he worked in retail, continued to be promoted and there began a long career in retail management. Mark opened and managed stores for Kirlin's, Lazarus, Kohl's and JoAnne Fabrics. The last 10 years of his life, Mark purchased an insurance agency as the principle agent. Mark loved working with people and had an incredible work ethic, never complaining about working long hours and took pride in his work.
A dedicated family man, Mark adored his kids and was so proud of them. He supported their interests spending many hours sitting on the sidelines watching a lacrosse, soccer or football (for the band) game rain or shine. Also, boy scout camps, attending art shows, band concerts and visiting many art museums were important to him because they were to his kids. He enjoyed hiking, listening to NPR, watching CBS Sunday Morning every Sunday morning, sports, music documentaries, working in the yard, and a good beer. He had an uncanny knowledge of science and nature, often reciting facts while on hikes with his family. He also had a real love of music, listening to anything from favorites Pink Floyd to Miles Davis. Mark was a great cook with his linguine and clam sauce being a family favorite and he had a great, dry sense of humor that often made his wife double over with laughter. He was strong but not argumentative and had a quiet confidence in his beliefs and how he carried himself. He was a wonderful husband (never turning down a request for foot rubs), father, son, brother, brother- in- law, uncle and friend to many. He will forever be remembered for his grace in every situation no matter how difficult. He was taken way too soon and will be missed and loved forever.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joni Shaw, children, Michael, Megan and Patrick Shaw. Also survived by his mother and step father , Linda and Paul Greenspan. Brothers, Scott Shaw (Annette) and Tony Shaw (Susan). Father- in- Law, Glen Seiber, Sister- in- laws Desiree Hunt (Jack) and Lisa Pattison (Randy), many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Also survived by a special uncle, Dennis Shaw (Simone) and aunt, Jane Shaw Gibson.
The family would like to thank the E wing staff of Green Meadows Health & Wellness Center for taking great care of Mark during the final stage of his disease.
