Marjorie Sharon (Smith) Mast

Marjorie Sharon (Sherri) Mast passed away at 1:15 PM on November 18, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.

Sherri was born in Akron, Ohio on September 20, 1950 to Marjorie Alice Smith (née Crew) and the late David Captain Smith. In addition to her father, she was proceeded in death by her husband Raymond Allen Mast. She is survived by her two children, Robert David Mast (Carrie VanMeter) and Derek Matthew Mast (Julia Derus); three grandchildren Emily Rae VanMeter-Mast, Eero Isaiah River Mast and Raylen Dorsey Canyon Mast. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Jean Flossie (Tim), Robert David Smith (Jeanie Marie), Thomas Lee Smith (Diane), Timothy Leonard Smith (Beth); her very special aunt Brenda Gill and many more relatives and loved ones.

Sherri graduated from Garfield High School, Mount Vernon Nazarene College, Eastern Nazarene College, and Muskingum College where she received her Master's Degree in Reading and Early Childhood Development. Having been the eldest sibling in a large family Sherri learned early on that she had a gift for educating others. She pursued a teaching career in New Lexington, Ohio, where she found great joy in developing in young students the ability to read and an appreciation for language. She touched many lives through her vocation and in her 35-year career made her community a better place. In her retirement, Sherri was able to move closer to her beloved family, with whom she shared much love and belonging in the final years of her life.

Sherri was a wise and beautiful nurturer; to know her was to know kindness, generosity, acceptance, and love.

The family will receive visitors from 12-2PM on Saturday, November 27 at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St in Akron, where a service will be held beginning at 2PM, Pastor Darrell Frazier officiating. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Arlington Church of the Nazarene, 1057 Triplett Blvd, Akron, OH 44306.
