Margaret Ann Colant, 96, passed away on July 2, 2025.
Maggie was born in Akron on February 12, 1929 to the late James & Margaret Ginn and was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary High School. She was a devoted lifetime parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Firestone Park, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild, the Knights of Columbus Council 3410 Ladies Auxiliary and the National Council of Catholic Women, where she was named Woman of the Year in 2000. Maggie worked for many years in retail at the Downtown Oneil's Department Store and the JC Penney at Rolling Acres Mall. She volunteered for many years at the Ronald McDonald House of Akron. Maggie loved to cook and was a devoted mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her husband Joe; son James Colant and daughters Margaret 'Peg' Wichman & Patricia Scarpelli; siblings James, William, Thomas Ginn, and Marie Griffith; son-in-law Glenn Scarpelli.
Maggie is survived by her children Andrew Maxwell, Gerard (Jo) Colant, Helen (Michael) Rothberg, and Christopher (Marcia) Colant; son-in-law Mark Wichman; grandchildren Margaret, Char (Jo), Zachariah, Dylan, Noelle (Geoff), Marco (Holly), Isabella (David), Joseph, Rick (Christina), Shelby (Lucas), Gigi and Luca; great-granddaughter Margaret; brother-in-law Tom Hafler, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, from 4-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 31, 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church 1580 Brown St. in Akron. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Ronald McDonald House or the Archbishop Hoban High School's Peggy Wichman Scholarship.
