Lizbeth "Beth" Marie Radwany, beloved sister, aunt, cousin, nurse and friend, died Sept. 5, 2024. Her gregarious personality and boundless fountain of love could make anyone feel like they were her closest friend.
Beth was a true daughter of Akron. Born in North Hill and a graduate of St. Mary's High School in 1967, she never called another place home for all of her 75 years. She grew up on Oxford Avenue - just off Tallmadge Avenue - in a tight-knit immigrant community woven together by faith and her family's ties to the Catholic Church.
Beth was a dedicated and beloved home care and hospice nurse in Northeast Ohio for 20 years. She proudly earned her nursing degree from Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in 1992. Beyond her brilliant capacity as a nurse, she always showed deep compassion and empathy with her patients to make every house call feel like a visit from a dear friend.
Beth acted in dozens of plays at Weathervane Playhouse and other theatres where her flair for dramatic and outgoing nature fit right in. Over the years she won four Chanticleer Awards and gathered dozens more lifelong friends.
But above all, Beth was fiercely loyal and devoted to her family. Though she never had children of her own, "Aunt Beth" held a close bond to her six nieces and nephews and their 13 children.
At the end of her life, Beth lived in the familiar halls of St. Martha's Manor in North Hill. Now a senior apartment complex, Beth attended St. Martha's when it was a Catholic day school where her mother, Rose, taught and then led as principal.
Beth is preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Les Radwany, and her older brother, Les Radwany, Jr. She's survived by her younger brother, Steven "Skip" Radwany; sisters-in-law Linda Radwany and Julie Radwany; nieces Rebecca Yeager, Theresa Lauer, and Kristen Radwany; nephews Joseph Radwany, Tim Radwany and Sam Radwany; and dozens of cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
Her family offers special thanks for the loving attention of Karen and Steve Kariotis, Dr. Joel Rayl, the staff of the Internal Medicine Center, and the entire Team on the Palliative Care Unit at Summa Health, Akron.
Beth will be cremated and reside with her beloved brother, Les, in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 14 at Blessed Trinity Church (formerly St. Martha's), 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron. Family and friends may gather prior to the service at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to Weathervane Community Playhouse or the charity of your choice.
