Lawrence Anthony Winkler

Larry A. Winkler, 84, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 surrounded by his family.


Larry was born September 13, 1940 to Lawrence and Alma (Biltz) Winkler in East Canton and had been an area resident of Green for most of his life. He served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1961 and graduated from Kent State University in 1970. He worked for Firestone Bank / Bank One for 31 years as a Branch Manager, Bank Officer before retiring in 2002.


Larry was a faithful and active member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he served as a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion as well as a member of the Finance Commission. He was a member and former president of the Holy Name Society at the parish. He was also a Third-Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 4664 and a Fourth-Degree member of Victor J. Paul Assembly. He was an integral part of the formation of the Queen of Heaven Lenten Fish Fry and continued as a volunteer.

Larry enjoyed his model trains, woodworking and listening to music. He loved golf and his annual trips to Myrtle Beach with his golfing buddies. Above all, he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished his 56-year marriage to the Love of his Life, Nancy.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife Nancy, parents Lawrence and Alma, sisters Martha Alkire and Dorthy Notz. He is survived by the 5 T's.... Tracy (Patrick) Wehrlin of Green, Tony (Edie) Winkler of Sagamore Hills, Todd (Tiffany) Winkler of Seattle, Washington, Tiffany (Ryan) Mann of Louisville, and Tara (Patrick) Snyder of Massillon. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Chris (Mari), Cameron, Brandon, Caitlin, Sean, Adrienne, Benjamin and Jackson and great grandchildren Clifton and Scottie Eggleton. Further survived by his brothers and sisters George Winkler, Bill Winkler, Betty Fryfogle, Dick (Susie) Winkler, and Suzi (Mike) Himes; along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and loyal friends; and we can't forget his faithful dog, Toby.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 2 to 5 PM at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green, entrance off Steese Rd.) where a Holy Name and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 4:45PM. Additional receiving Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10 to 11AM at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown OH 44685 followed by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Military Honors will follow the Mass and all are invited to a reception to follow immediately at the Queen of Heaven Parish Life Center. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery in Canton.
