Laura Jean Galat

October 7th, 1959 - December 18th, 2025

Laura Jean (Newman) Galat, 66, of Akron, Ohio, went Home to be with the Lord on December 18th, surrounded by her family's singing and love.

Laura was born on October 7th, 1959, to parents Dick and Esther (Kozy) Newman.

Laura graduated from Kenmore High School in 1978 and later went on to further her education at W. Howard Nicol School of Practical Nursing. She earned her diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing and was an LPN at St. Thomas Hospital for over 25 years.

Laura loved the Lord with all of her heart and was a member of Wintergreen Ledges Church of God for many years. She was an incredibly loving mom and grandma, who cherished every moment spent with her family. She found so much joy in drawing, painting, gardening, and shared her family's deep love of music.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Carlisle Newman and Esther May (Kozy) Newman, and great-nephew Ricky Newman.

She is survived by her daughter Ashley (Jacob) Phillips; brothers Richard Newman and David (Jackie) Newman; granddaughters Eliana May and Liliana Jean; nieces and nephews Joe, Michelle, Mike, Joy, Chad, and Danielle; great-nieces and great-nephews Russell, Hannah, Hope, Joshua, Adam, and Nicholas; great-great-nephews Baylor and Beckham.

Although she will be deeply missed by her family and loved ones, our comfort comes from knowing Laura's faith was fully in Christ Jesus! Through Christ's death and resurrection, we have the promise of everlasting life, and that we will be reunited again. We love you more than anything, Mommy.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 29th at the Anthony Funeral Homes - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St, Akron, Ohio 44301 from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30th at 12pm where the family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:30am until the time of service at Wintergreen Ledges Church of God, 1889 Vernon Odom Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44320. A graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2580 Romig Rd, Akron, Ohio 44320. A memorial luncheon will be held back at Wintergreen Ledges Church of God following the graveside service.
