Khambenh Bountharack was a devoted father, a courageous soldier, and a compassionate leader. Born on March 4th, 1930, in Ban Namarkeua, Savannakhet, Laos. He lived a life defined by service, strength, and resilience.
From humble beginnings, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Laos Royal Army shortly after his early schooling. His dedication led him to pursue advanced training in nursing and military education, eventually becoming a sergeant and later graduating from the top military nursing academy in Vientiane. His rise through the ranks was a testament to his leadership and unwavering commitment. Over the years, he earned promotions to Warrant Officer, 2nd Lieutenant, Captain, and finally Major in 1972.
Khambenh served valiantly in many battles, including the intense conflicts of Thonghaihin, Xiengkhouang, and the Sepon battlefield. He trained across Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand, and was known as a skilled officer and a compassionate medic. He worked closely with many respected generals and always placed the well-being of others above his own.
After communists overtook Laos in 1975, he was sent to Atapeu seminar camp. He managed to escape the country the following year, a journey that would eventually lead him to seek refuge for his family in the United States. He moved to the Naphon Nakhornphanom Refugee Camp in 1989, and eventually moved to Akron, Ohio on January 6th, 1991-where he has lived ever since.
Khambenh dedicated his life to his family. He was the proud father of seven children-two in Thailand and five in the United States. He was also blessed with plentiful grandchildren who carry his legacy of courage and perseverance.
Khambenh passed away peacefully in his home, on July 14th, 2025-at the age of 95-with his wife, Vilaysack, and many more loved ones by his side. His life was one of honor, love, and unwavering sacrifice. Though he is no longer with us, the values he lived by and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.
