IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen
Considine
June 12, 1953 – May 6, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Kathleen Considine shares the news that she died at Akron Summa Health on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Kathleen was born in Akron, Ohio to Edward J. and Mary Louise (née Smith) Considine on June 12,1953. She is survived by her siblings Rita (Larry) Stallings, Eddie Considine, and Carol (John) Titus, nieces and nephews Mike (Christina) Stallings, Beth (Bryan) Stallings, Patrick (Ashley Baxstrom) Stallings, Chris Titus, Kate Titus and grand nephews Sean and Blake Stallings.
She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1971 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Akron and master's from Ohio University. She found her calling in speech-language pathology at an early age, retiring as manager of speech pathology at Akron Children's Hospital after 41 years.
Kathleen was proud of her work with traumatic brain injuries and helped to develop the head injury clinic and school success clinic at Akron Children's. Her work in vocal cord dysfunction treatment was significant, and it continues to be developed to this day. She had a gift for connecting with children and her tremendous impact continues to be felt, not only by her former patients but by the hundreds who will continue to benefit from the research and systems she helped to create.
Knowing this, it is no surprise she had a special relationship with each of many nieces and nephews. In her later years, nothing brought a smile to Kathleen's face more than when her grand-nephews asked "Aunt Kathleen-a-Leen" to read with them or play Go Fish.
Kathleen spent her all-too-brief retirement years exactly as she had hoped, traveling and spending time with loved ones. Her travels led to life-altering experiences that deepened and expanded her faith, including trips to Greece, Italy, Israel and Hilton Head Island. She loved the arts and theater, regularly catching shows in New York City and at Niagara-on-the-Lake with her friend, Earliene.
Kathleen never missed a chance to celebrate her Irish heritage. She enjoyed gardening, bicycling in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and loved animals, especially dogs, including her beloved pup, Murphy. Quick-witted, smart, thoughtful and kind, Kathleen was an active member of St. Bernard Parish in Akron as well as many prayer groups. She was also a member and past president of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority.
The family is grateful for the care she received at Summa during her final days, especially from nurses Scott, Cinda and Savannah. And doctors Maureen Cheung, Loretta Isada and Peter Bittenbender, as well as the entire heart surgery team.
Calling hours will take place from 4-7 pm on Monday, May 13, at Dunn-Quigley funeral home, 811 Grant St in Akron. Celebration of life Mass will occur at St. Bernard church, 44 University Ave. in Akron, at 10 am on Tuesday, May 14. A burial service at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Bernard Memorial Trust Fund: 44 UniversityAve., Akron, Ohio 44308. Or to the St. Mary School Enrichment Program: 750 S. Main St, Akron 44311.
Kathleen was a singular soul with a loving heart, a deep commitment to family and friends and an unwavering faith and love for God. She shared her faith freely and lived in the service of others. She will be deeply missed.
