Joyce L. (Helmkee) Bender

Joyce L. Bender, 89, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Born in Newark, Ohio in 1936 to the late Donald and Grace Helmkee, Joyce worked for the City of Akron for 40 years as clerk of City Council. She was a member of Lifespring Christian Church where she served on the Church Board and volunteered for various church functions and activities. She enjoyed parades, especially the Hibernian's St. Patrick's Day Parade. She was also an avid fan of clowns.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, David M. Rowles; and her siblings, Donna, Joann, Donald, Marjory and Jane. She is survived by her dear and special friend, Sue Greening; several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Sandra Hall and Rebecca (Gilbert) Hart; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Lifespring Christian Church, 1828 Marigold Ave. Akron, Ohio 44301 where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Terry Baker officiating. Interment will take place at Lockwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or a charity of your choice.
