Joseph Takacs, 99, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013.
He was born in Akron and retired from Akro Tec after 20 years of service. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Hartville. Mr. Takacs was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II in submarine service and then on the USS Hope Medical Ship. Joseph was an Amateur Radio Operator "W8NHO" and also a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League and the MARS Weather Net. In his retirement, he was an avid farmer enjoying working on his farm with his wife raising animals.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Danko and Theresa Takacs; and brother, John Takacs. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary (Ladich); daughters, Mary (Jim) Franklin and Barbara Takacs; son, Joseph (Ann) Takacs; grandchildren, Margo (Michael) Cotopolis, Kristin (Josh) Robinson and Joseph Paul Takacs; and great-grandchildren, Holden, Hunter and Dominic Robinson and Ashley Cotopolis.
Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Pastor Bob Cheyney officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Mercy Medical Hospice of Canton. (Anthony, Akron, 330-724-1281, www.anthonyfh.com)
