Joseph L. Rusov passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with his devoted wife by his side. In addition to his wife, Kaye Lynn, he is survived by his mother, Ann Millone; sister, Nancy Riddle (Ernie); brother, Stephen Rusov (Chuck); mother-in-law, Marge Hinkle; brother-in-law, James P. Farkas; niece, Amanda Brouse (Joseph); nephew, James "Bo" Farkas (Maggie); great-nephew, Theo; great-nieces, Zoey Rose and Stevie Marge, and lifelong friends Malin Tusko, Vito Sinopoli; and steadfast friends and brothers in Christ, Ray Thompson and Dan Dyer, who provided unwavering support and a shared strength in faith over the last ten years.
Born in Akron, Joseph dedicated much of his life to service and protecting others. His education included drafting, architecture and business at the University of Akron before beginning his career in law enforcement. Joseph's strategic mind was apparent early on as a high school chess champion, which led him to a distinguished career in law enforcement. He served for many years as a Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Commander of the Bomb Squad with the Summit County Sheriff's Office. He was respected for his dedication and commitment to public service. His work spanned various divisions, including Corrections, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Internal Affairs, and the SWAT Team, as well as a specialized international mission to Kuwait. He leaves behind a legacy of duty, leadership and honor.
Before entering law enforcement, he and his wife established Portage Lakes IGA. Beyond his professional life, he had an appreciation for landscape design, photography, and culinary experiences.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Walter Rusov; uncle, Leo Rusov; father-in-law, James J. Farkas; and grandparents.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at The Chapel in Green, 1800 Raber Rd., Uniontown, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9 -11 a.m. Memorial church service will begin at 11 a.m. Graveside service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Rd., Akron.
Joseph will be remembered with love, respect, gratitude and his love for Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Chapel in Green or to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).
