Joseph Recktenwald

Joseph Recktenwald, 88, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.


Joseph was born November 19, 1932 to Joseph and Mary (Rockl) Recktenwald in Dunakomlod, Hungary and came to the United States in 1949. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from The University of Akron and taught there in the Construction Technology Department. He was employed as a construction manager for Huszar Construction until 1976 Forest City Enterprises until 1992 and retired from RP Carbone in 2002. He was a faithful member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, the German Family Society and Bricklayers Union Local 7. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and major spectator sports. He loved spending time with his family.


Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary (Brown); children Mary E. (Randy) Johnson, Patricia (Michael) Schnellinger, Joseph A. (Kathleen O'Connor) Recktenwald, and Mark (Debbie) Recktenwald; grandchildren Randy Johnson, Christopher (Kimberly) Johnson, Tricia (fiancé Brandon Kulesa) Johnson, Amy Koneval, Joseph M. Recktenwald, Adam (Stephanie) Recktenwald, Erin Schnellinger, Brian (Elizabeth Mason) Recktenwald and Rusty Schnellinger; great- grandchildren Addison, Maisy, Calista, London, Apollo, Cole, Cayson, Benton, JT and Rhys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Theresia Recktenwald.


The family will receive friends Wednesday June 2, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Rd. (corner of Massillon and Steese roads in Green, entrance off Steese). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11 am where the family will receive friends from 10 am until time of services at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown OH 44685. The interment is on Friday June 4, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville OH 44273. Donations may be made to Queen of Heaven Church or Grace Hospice. Masks are required for those who are not vaccinated.
