John Martin Zink, age 64, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on March 8, 2025 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. John was born on February 25, 1961 in Akron, Ohio to John and Barbara Zink. He was a longtime resident of the Akron-Canton area. In 2019, he moved to Fripp Island, South Carolina to trade the wintery snows for sand and sun.
John was a devoted father and husband. His greatest moments were spending time with his family, traveling the world with his wife, Kay, fishing the lakes of Canada, and enjoying a great day at the beach. Known for his humor, John deeply appreciated life, even when it was just sharing good times over an ice-cold beer. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing, coaching, and cheering on his favorite teams. John was also a talented artist and craftsman, often producing one-of-kind pieces in his workshop to share with everyone. His hand-carved birds that perch upon his neighbors' street signs and mailboxes that bring joy to everyone who passes by are just one example of his creative legacy. As a master technician whose skills were highly sought after, he had the natural ability to fix or renovate anything. John touched the lives of everyone he met, and his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Zink, Jr., and his son, John Robert Zink. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Kay Zink, daughters Stephanie Zink, and Emily Zink (Matthew Burke), mother Barbara Aman, sister Diana (Michael) Hazlett, and brothers Daniel (Kristen) Zink and Joseph Zink. He is also survived by a large loving family and many cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19th, 11:00am at Anthony Funeral Homes, 1990 S. Main St., Akron, Ohio. Calling hours will be held before the service at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
