John Saviolis, age 62, passed away on December 9, 2022 in Phoenix, Arizona after a brief illness. Born in Akron, Ohio to Steve and Mary Saviolis he resided a good part of his life in the Phoenix area. As a little boy he fell in love with Arizona when he took the trip of a lifetime traveling across country on the original Route 66 with his mother and maternal grandparents. He was determined as a young man to move out there and spent his years working as an optician and traveling at every opportunity he could. He was able to visit over twenty-five countries and all but two states. He just ran out of time. John never forgot his Ohio roots and would visit with family and longtime Ohio friends as often as he could. John was also a caring and devoted uncle who loved his nephew Nicholas as if he were his own.
John was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Mary Saviolis. He is survived by his sister Rene (Pete) Stamatis of Avon, Ohio, and nephew Nicholas. He also leaves behind extended family and many longtime kind and caring friends from Arizona who were always there for him through the years.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, Ohio 44304. Rev. Fr. Dean Kokanos will be officiating.
