John Mastrojohn

John V. Mastrojohn, Jr, (92) of Akron, Ohio, died peacefully at home on April 26, 2024.
A loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, he was born in Akron, Ohio to John and Margaret Mastrojohn. John was a talented athlete and musician graduating from Garfield High School in 1949 and later serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a Golden Glove Boxing champ, but always a musician and artist at heart. He wrote children's stories, and late in life, published one of his favorites. He retired from Central News Co., and spent many years volunteering at St. Paul's Parish, playing drums, painting, watching classic movies, loving his pets, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Betty L. Mastrojohn, his children, Rene' Speight (Don); John Mastrojohn III (Mike Davids); Tami Mastrojohn; and three grandchildren, Andrew Speight (Jayme); Nicole Pruitt (Shaundle); and Maxwell Smith. He loved them all, including his four great-grandchildren, Ariya & Kamden Pruitt and Logan and Lyla Speight. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ann Overstreet, and brother, George Mastrojohn.
His children are grateful to their mother for the loving care she provided him, especially these last several years. We will always strive to reflect your love and compassion.
The entire family extend their gratitude to Joyce Good for many years of love and support, to John Withrow for weekly communion, and to Carrie Wagner, for her kindness and care. We are most grateful to the hospice team at Hospice of the Western Reserve, for the care and compassion they provided us all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 1 from 5p - 7p at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., in Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Thursday May 2 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., in Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
