John Steve Lengyel

Our Dad, John Lengyel, 91, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at home.
John was born December 12, 1926 to George and Mary (Fedzuga) Lengyel in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life.  He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  He was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for over 48 years, retiring in 1991.  He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, VFW Post 3383 and Jednota Branch 553.
John is survived by his daughters Linda (Michael) Poinar, Sandra (Bruce) Fithian, Kara (Mike) Castellano and Donna Bates; mother of his children Evelyn Lengyel; grandchildren Zachary and Noah Poinar, Terry (Jeremiah) Jeff, Jacob, Emily, Jordan, Maggie and Claire Fatica, Carson Wedlake and Elizabeth Bates; great grandchildren Elli Griffin and Zachary Ramirez; and Michael Hendrix who was like a grandson to him.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Perkins, grandson Christopher Perkins, siblings George and Mary Lengyel and Helen Largent and longtime, dearest and special friend Barbara Little.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the caregivers of Shepherd's Gate Assisted Living, Summa Hospital Palliative Care and Summa Hospice.
The family will receive friends Monday 4 to 7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron.  A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. Akron OH 44301.  Interment with Military Honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.   Donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
