John J. Abbott, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026 surrounded by his family.
John was born on October 2, 1938 to the late William and Elizabeth Abbott and was a lifetime resident of Green, Ohio. He was a member of the Army Reserve and was stationed at Ft. Knox. John worked for General Tire for over 22 years and then for Canton Drop Forge, retiring in 2003. He was involved with competitive tractor pulling for over 60 years. John was also a member of the German-American Club, where he served as president for three years. He was a founding member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Delores; and brother Bill Abbott. He is survived by his children Deborah, John Jr (Douglas Prince), Cathy (Susan Chesney), and Michael (Beth); grandchildren Adam and Tanya Abbott; special niece Hope Abbott; brothers Jim (Shelia) and Paul (Barb) Abbott; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 11:00AM, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road in Green, where the family will received friends beginning at 10:00AM. Burial at East Liberty Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Starting Over Airedale Rescue via: https://soar-airedale-rescue.com/donate/ .
