Joann (Slevin) Marcinkoski

September 16, 1933 — January 17, 2025

JoAnn Marcinkoski, 91, passed away and joined the choir of angels on Friday January 17, 2025, after a brave and difficult 7-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

JoAnn was born September 16, 1933, to Harold and Anne (McDermott) Slevin in Akron, Ohio and has been an area resident her entire life. She was a graduate of Springfield High School, received her B.S in Education with a minor in vocal performance from Kent State
University and received her M.S. in Education from Ashland University. She taught for years at Springfield Local Schools. She was also certified as a Master Gardener.

JoAnn's pride and joy were her family and her gift of music. She continued to host birthdays and holidays in her home as recently as Christmas 2024. Her love of singing included singing with the Robert Page Singers and 30 years with the Cleveland Orchestra
Chorus which allowed her to travel the world. She was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus in 1997 when they won a Grammy award. In addition, she was the choir director for many years at St. Matthew and Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Catholic Churches.

JoAnn and husband Paul were founding member of Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church and JoAnn was a long-time member of Tuesday Musical Association and St. Cecelia Choral Society.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Paul, parents Harold and Ann and brother Tom Slevin and granddaughter Natalie Altieri. She is survived by children Thomas (Monica) Marcinkoski, Dr. Joan (Dr. Paul) Kolodzik, Dr. Beth (Bruce) Altieri,
Ann (Robert) Gruska, Laura (Tony) Hawk and Jenifer (Troy) Burt; grandchildren Jena (Kyle) Wright, Alena (Kyle) Postlethwait, Daniel (Dana), Sarah, and Matthew Kolodzik, Christopher (Erin) Marcinkoski, Audrey (Thomas) Bouscher, Lauren (Bill) Steudler, Steven
(Brittany) Gruska, Austin Hawk and Ian, Aiden and Christian Burt; great grand children Tate and Leighton Marcinkoski, Mohan and Nahanaeli Bouscher, Stella, Blakely and Collins Gruska, Harper and William Steudler, Camille Postlethwait and Leo Wright; sisters
Geri Orr and Sue Tuxill.

JoAnn's family would especially like to thank the amazing women from Care from My Heart who became like family and who provided in-home care and support for her over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville, Rd. Akron, Ohio 44312 where the family will receive friends from 10-11:15AM. A luncheon will follow the Mass
and private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tuesday Musical Association, 1041 W. Market St. #200, Akron Ohio 44313 or St. Cecilia Choral Society c/o Summit Choral Society, 140 E. Market St., Akron,
Ohio 44308.
