Joann (Chambless) Gilchrist

Joann Gilchrist, 87, passed away on October 13th, 2024 .
Born September 24, 1937 to John and Alice Chambless, she graduated from Stow High School in 1955. Following high school, she married Joseph Gilchrist, then began her life's work of caring for her large family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren attending their school functions and sporting events. Holidays, birthdays and special occasions were celebrated at her home and she prepared elaborate meals, desserts, and cookies with great attention to every detail. Her thoughtfulness was evident in giving just the right gift, card, or letter. Mom had the answer to every homemaking question. She was known for her Christmas cookies, ability to get any stain out, and was the ultimate clothes mender. Gardening was her second love and she was a long time member of Presidential Park Garden Club where she made many lifelong friends. Her flower gardens provided her much peace and joy. Joann was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and involved in Rosary Altar Society when younger and Ministry for the Needy in later years. She was small and soft spoken but fiercely independent. In her later years she was content to spend most days in her garden tending to her plants and just enjoying the outdoors. Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph, and son, John. She is survived by children : Teresa Babb, Catherine Gilchrist, Susan(John) Zanin, Michael(Judy) Gilchrist, Anne(Bruce) Bee, and Mary(Steve) Ertley; 12 grandchildren: Dena, Claire, Andy, Emily, Patty, Joe, Annie, Jim, Mike, Tommy, Joe, and Danny and 18 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, October 21st at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Cuyahoga Falls with Father James Singler officiating. Calling hours 10 AM immediately preceding the funeral at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ministry for the Needy or the Father McIntyre Fund at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223.
