Joan (Shumaker) Kasburg

Joan Kasburg, 84, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022 at University Hospital-Portage.
Joan was born February 13, 1937, to Carl and Mary (Duhon) Shumaker in Akron and was a graduate of Buchtel High School and Hammel Business College. She was a secretary for Field High School, Junior High, Library and principal for 22 years. She became the Secretary and Treasurer of St. John Lutheran Church (her home church) for 12 years.
Joan was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a Band Booster and Chaperone for Field High School. Her interests included sewing, crocheting, and crafts and she was a bowler for 30 years.
Joan's true joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She and Fred never missed an event, a game or just a chance to visit.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Fred in 2021 and is survived by her children Lorinda (Joe) Falasca, Douglas (Laura) Kasburg, Duane Kasburg, Melanie (John) Waickman, and Derick (Michele) Kasburg; grandchildren Leanne Kasburg, Jeremy (Sara) Richardson, Janelle (Ben) Strahsburg, Elizabeth (T.C. Dunnivan), Benjamin and Cassandra Waickman, Bryce, Nicholas (fiancé Kate Chifolo), Jareth and Tiffani Kasburg; great grandchild Owen Kasburg.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron. A funeral service will be held Monday January 31, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 550 E Wilbeth Rd., Akron OH 44301. Interment Restland Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
