UNIONTOWN - Jerry Arthur Seifert, age 86, died Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was born July 17, 1936 in Louisville, Ohio to John and Martha Seifert. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a pilot, a flight instructor, a businessman, and a quintessential innovator. All who knew him were touched by his kindness, optimism and his relentless belief in the power of the human spirit.
Jerry began flying at the age of 16, and through the next 68 years, logged over 13,000 hours in more than 65 different aircraft. He served briefly in the Air Force Reserves. A highlight of his career is having introduced Ed DeBartolo to the advantages of corporate flying, becoming his first corporate pilot. He also launched and operated over seven businesses, in industries including motorhomes, real estate, restaurants, and environmental safety.
He is predeceased by his parents, and his six siblings, John (Eleanor), Joanne (Junior), Lois (Elmer), Shirley, Donny, and Kenny.
He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Seifert, of 62 years; 4 children, Linda (Mark) Tefend of Cincinnati, OH, Mike (Brit) Seifert of Hudson, OH, Jeff (Jennifer) Seifert of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Rodney (Stephanie) Seifert of Medina, OH; 11 grandchildren, who referred to him affectionately as "Poppy"; brothers-in-law Bill Breit and Lou Gibbs, and sister-in-law Judy Seifert.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, November 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road, Uniontown, OH 44685 (corner of Massillon & Steese Roads, entrance off Steese). A funeral mass will be held November 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes "tribute donations" in Jerry Seifert's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org, or by calling 1-800-473-4636.
