James Cornelius Buie

James C. Buie, Jr. passed away in his sleep at home on January 8, 2018. He was born March 24, 1929 in Akron, Ohio.
He attended Akron Garfield High School and graduated in 1947. On July 15, 1950 he married the love of his life, June L. Sims (Buie). He worked at B.F. Goodrich, Billows Funeral Home and Norka Beverage before becoming a police officer for the City of Akron, where he found his true career passion.
He and the family moved to Pompano Beach Florida in 1959 where he worked for the Police Department. He and the family returned to Akron in 1960 and he resumed his career with A.P.D. During his career he was a beat man, detective, traffic officer, motorcycle officer, vice and narcotics
officer and he was commanding Lieutenant for the newly formed community Relations Division for 22 years. He started the Akron Police Museum and also wrote the History of the Akron Police Department. During his stellar career he arrested one of the FBI top ten fugitives. After he retired from the Police Department in 1990 he worked for Victim's Assistance with Bob Denton. He ended his career working for the Summit County Sheriff, Drew Alexander.
Jim was an avid reader, historian, loved sports, especially baseball. He was a song writer and a poet, and he loved his dogs, Bisky and Heather. He instilled a love of music in his children. He was all day pitcher and all day quarterback in the street games in front of the Herberich Avenue home.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, June, his parents, James C. Buie and Addie Lorene Buie (Hughey), and his sister Elizabeth Ferguson (Buie). He is survived by his son Mark (Gretchen), son Stephen
(Sharon) and daughter Lori Lemons (Dennis); grandson Shane (Nicole) great grandson Malcom; grandson James (Amanda), grandson Andrew; granddaughter Lindsay Zimmerman (Brian), great granddaughter Stella; granddaughter Meredith Soduk (Alex), great granddaughter Claire June.
Calling hours will be Friday January 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44301. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be officiated by Steve and Mark Buie. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park. (Anthony, AKRON)
