James Bamont

February 26, 1939 — December 9, 2025

James Joseph Bamont, lifetime resident of Akron, Ohio, passed on to the next life on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. He was 86 years old.
Born February 26, 1939 to Michael J. and Virginia S. (nee Shutway) Bamont. His dad a laborer, and mom, a domestic house wife; life was simple and despite financial struggles, the family persisted. Jim spent many summers on the family farm in Flushing, Ohio, enjoying time with his grandparents and uncles. His father passed unexpectedly when Jim was 15. The Catholic Diocese enabled Jim to attend Borromeo Seminary through high school and college. Upon graduation Jim began a career as a teacher of history and Latin in the Akron Ohio school system. Jim and his mom bought a house in 1964 and lived together till her death in 2011. They prospered in health as both were avid gardeners, both lived healthy by means of nutrition thru food. His prized asparagus was enjoyed by many. Upon retiring, he became an avid reader of all things, enjoying gardening and discussing politics. His love of the Home Shopping Network was exceeded only by his love of the Republican Party. Though not much for material possessions, one of Jim's greatest joys was capturing moments at family gatherings, returning home to his home lab to develop photographs and then sharing those captured moments with family and friends. Jim's later years were a struggle with issues commonly experienced by seniors, but he enjoyed a full life as son, seminarian, teacher, photographer, family historian, gardener, caregiver and devout and faithful servant of the Lord.
Jim is survived on his father's side by an Aunt Anna Maria West, and many cousins. On his mother's side, by many Shutway cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held in March 2026 for out of town family and friends. Details will be announced at a later date.
