Herschell Ray Woods

April 14, 1927 — March 28, 2016

Herschell R. Woods, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on March 28, at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina.
Born in Akron on April 14, 1927 to the late Herschell Sr. and Beatrice Woods, he was a graduate of Kenmore High School and the University of Akron. He retired from Green Local Schools as a teacher in 1989 with nearly 30 years of service. He served his country as a member of the US Navy at the end of WWII. He was a longtime member of the Allenside United Presbyterian Church in Akron. Herschell was a member of the Masonic Lodge Portage Lakes Chapter #752.
In addition to his parents, Herschell was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2007, son Dr. Jeffrey L. Woods, and brother Harvey Woods. He is survived by his children Jerry (Louise) Woods, Dr. Thomas Woods, and Debra (Mike) Vitou; 12 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren; sister Caroline (John) Roland & sister-in-law Marcia Woods.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, 2-4 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A funeral service will take place on Monday, 11 am, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron.
