Burnham
June 1, 1931 – January 12, 2025
Harriet Ann Burnham (McDonald) age 93 passed away January 12, 2025. Harriet was a lifelong Akron resident. She attended St. Mary elementary and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1949.
Harriet worked for Summit Wholesale Co., Akron Board of Education Food Services and Mill Street Noodle at Quaker Square. She is preceded in death by parents Robert Dallas and Loretta McDonald, brothers Robert and Willard and beloved son Gregory with whom she is now reunited in heaven.
Harriet loved being a mom to three active boys, attending all of their music, athletic and academic events. She helped establish a library at St. Peter Elementary School and volunteered her time to operate it. Her family travels included trips to Florida, California, Oregon and other points west. She was as avid reader with a keen interest in history which led to family visits to historic sites throughout much of the country.
Harriet was an unselfish, compassionate caregiver. She lovingly looked after her mother in her later years, ensuring her a high quality of life. She was always aware of the needs of others, fostering support for everyone before herself. Harriet was strong in her Catholic faith and belonged to St. Paul's Church in Firestone Park. A long time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, she was very proud of her Irish heritage.
Harriet is survived by sons Christopher (Maryellen) Burnham, Tom McDonald (Denise), granddaughter Baleigh Burnham, sister Mary Margaret (Richard Roten), and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family extends a special thanks to the kind nurses and staff at The Briarwood of Stow and Crossroads Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burnham Family Summit Choral Endowment at Akron Community Foundation (345 W. Cedar St, Akron, OH 44307) or Summit Choral Society (140 E. Market St, Akron, OH 44308).
Visitation will commence Monday, January 20 from 3:00-6:00 pm at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St, Akron) with burial mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, (1580 Brown St, Akron) Tuesday, January 21 at 10:00 am.
