Gwendolyn (Sootie) Sue (Turpin) Farkas

December 3, 1948 — December 4, 2022

Gwendolyn Sue "Sootie" Farkas

Sue (Sootie) Farkas surrendered the precious gift of her life on Sunday, December 4, 2022, following a brief illness one day after her 74th birthday.

Sue was born in Akron to Robert and Margaret Scott Turpin in 1948. A life-long Akron resident, she was a 1966 graduate of Garfield High School and a well-respected licensed barber at DeCheco's Barbershop. She was a member of the Hibernians.

Sue was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother always putting family first. She never met a stranger, just friends she did not yet know. She was generous to a fault with her time and money and lavished attention on family and friends. Sue was first to drop what she was doing and pitch in to help others in need, and also served many charitable causes. She so often put herself last in life, she wound up first in many hearts.

Sue wore her sparkling beauty inside and out, which won her much admiration. She was the life of any party, a raconteur extraordinaire, an outstanding cook, a dedicated gardener and the best traveling companion anyone could hope to meet.

Sue kept family close but also wove a tight circle of love magically about her, drawing many friendships together that otherwise might not have existed. She will be remembered fondly and missed dearly as a divine gift to all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her life.

Sue is survived by her children Billy Farkas and Kelly Farkas; life-partner Tony Guarino; grandchildren Stone Lucas, Stiv Ruszin, Ephraim Farkas and Westen Farkas; brother Scott (Sue) Turpin and his children Missy (Thomas) Gill and Joey Turpin; and legions of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband William Lee Farkas in 1984.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 4 to 7 pm at the Kucko-Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301, followed by a celebration of her life at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors at www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=10043&ovr_acv_id=5246
