Gertrude Delores Zeno, a woman filled with love and joy, went home to our Lord, March 28, 2022. Preceded in death by her loving husband Nicholas Zeno and adored son Nick Zeno, she is happily reunited with them in heaven.
Survived by her son, Daryle J. Zeno and his wife Conni, her best friend and sister, Judy Scott, Grandsons, Daryle J.Zeno Jr, Ronnie (Maggie) Bender and great-granddaughter Raegan, as well as nieces and nephews, John Zeno, Lisa Zeno Carano, Donnie Scott, and Trish Scott.
Gertrude Delores Zeno loved people. Look for a group in fellowship, and Delores would be in the center, swapping stories of the past and laughing from deep within her soul. Summer would find her spending time with her friends at all of the open air concerts around town, or taking day trips with her Prime-Timers Club. The community was also important to Delores, where she volunteered both civically and in her church, St Paul Parish on Brown Street, where she was a devoted member since 1964. She could be seen volunteering at St. Paul Elementary School and helping feed summertime lunches to children at Firestone Park. In addition she was a member of Al-Anon and the Jednota club where she helped serve food at the spaghetti dinners and the Lenten fish fries. Each year, she could be found volunteering for Akron's First Night New Year's event and passing out water to the runners in the Akron Marathon. As well as knowing all of her councilmen, her neighbors called the Mayor of Triplett Blvd, because if something needed done, Delores was the one to make it happen. Delores made friends in every setting and she never forgot a name or a face. She was known all over Akron. In every store, pharmacy, church, post office, and library, employees and patrons alike were welcomed into her circle of friends. Over the last few years she became a popular fixture at her assisted living facility, and had a very close group of friends there, doing crafts, going on outings, playing a serious game of bingo, praying the rosary and just hanging out after dinner, sharing stories of the past. The only thing closer to her heart than friends, was her family. She spent hours every day talking to her sister and best friend Judy. They were closer than anyone could ever imagine. Having lost her husband and eldest son too early, she valued every minute with those she loved. Always filled with pride of her youngest son Daryle and his wife Conni, she couldn't wait to introduce them to anyone new. She carried a pride of family as well as a pride of her heritage. Anyone that truly knew her, knew she loved being Italian and would meet a new Paisan at every event she attended. Gertrude Delores Zeno, a remarkable woman of faith, family, and friends, whose life was given to spreading love and joy. Her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, loyalty, and friendship will truly be missed by everyone.
