Gerald J. 'Jerry' Swan, 86, passed away on October 14, 2024.
Jerry was born in Akron on March 3, 1938 to the late Lloyd & Julia Swan. He was a 1956 graduate of Hower Vocational School and served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and spent 12 months in Korea. He worked as a tire builder for 23 years at General Tire and then another 20 years as an extruder operator at Saint-Gobain. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Firestone Park. Jerry enjoyed fishing with his boys, going to the gym and attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He loved taking trips to Las Vegas. When he was young he worked as a caddie at Fairlawn Country Club.
Jerry is survived by his children Jeralynn (Mike) Cetnarowski of Mogadore, Jeffrey (Rana) Swan of Tallmadge, Scott (Lisa) Swan of Tallmadge & Derek (Debra) Swan of Akron; grandchildren Chelsea (Nathan) Hornacek, Stefanie (David) Lloyd, Alicia (Brian) Grubich, Stacie (Jordan) Poth, Lindsey (Jonathan) Cole & Logan, Evan, Kaden, Tyler and Trevor Swan; great-grandchildren, Mason, Maria, Oaklynn, Bo, Jackson & one on the way; cousins Irene & Bonnie Jean.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, from 2-4 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home, AKRON CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. in Akron. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jerry's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization he held dear due to the ongoing care received by his grandson, Logan, by visiting www.stjude.org or mail donations to: 1 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
