George A. Wischt, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2025.
George was born on August 13, 1934 to the late George Albert & Rose Mary Wischt and was a graduate of Garfield High School in Akron. George served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a lab technician from General Tire in 1994. He worked with his sons in the family business, George Wischt & Sons Construction until the age of 75. George was a lifetime parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ellet. He enjoyed ice skating, playing hockey, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother Mike. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dolores; sons George (Toni) Jr., Michael (Laurie), Paul, John (Lori) & daughter Theresa (Patrick) McDowell; grandchildren Maria (Mike) Pfahl, George III, Rachel (Kevin) Collard, Paul (Torie) Jr., Renata (Jake) Boyd, Austin, Jackie (Kirklin) Grahovac, & Kelsey McDowell, along with 6 great-grandchildren; sister Alice Bonifacio.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 6, 5-7 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial wil be celebrated on Friday, February 7, 10:30 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Ave. in Akron. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
