IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George
Schulz
February 26, 1931 – April 9, 2024
George Schulz Jr
February 26, 1931 – April 9, 2024
Dad was born in Yugoslavia on February 26, 1931 to George and Magdelena Schulz. He was a WWII refugee sent to Germany after the Russians took control of the town. He had many fascinating stories about his experiences growing up during the war. He had one brother, Andrew, who was 9 years older.
Dad met his wife, Elisabeth Hutfless in Germany. Legend has it that they met when she threw an egg at him while he rode past on a motorcycle and the egg didn't break. They came to the United States in 1957 to start a new life with their two sons, settling in Akron and having 4 more children. Dad was a superintendent for Catholic Cemeteries Association until he retired in 1994. He built a house on Middle Bass Island, mostly with his own hands, that was a great source of joy and pride for him. For many years both of our parents spent summer weekends on MBI, gardening and enjoying their grandchildren. Dad raced homing pigeons for many years and had a great time breeding and training them up until his stroke in February of 2023.
George leaves behind children, John (Marcia), George (Debbie), Charles (Cory), Elisabeth, Anne (Chris) and Alfred (Corinna). Grandchildren Matt (Chris), Christopher, Eric (Robin), Brenna, Maddie (Robert), Domenick (Dani), and Jared.
He joins his Mom, Dad and brother, Wife Elisabeth, and granddaughters Bryn, Holly, Jackie and Paige in Heaven.
We would like to thank the staff of Unit 2 at Pebble Creek Nursing home for the care that they provided for our Dad.
Calling hours are Tuesday, April 16th at 10:00am followed by Mass at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 17th St SW, Akron, Ohio 44314. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance or the International Myeloma Foundation.
