George Elek Herdon

George E. Herdon, 85, of Rootstown, Ohio passed away at home on March 17, 2021. He is survived by his caring wife, Rose of 52 years; and daughters, Elizabeth (Jim) Kitchen and Rosalie (Imran) Jooma. He had five loving grandchildren, Elek, Ilona, Amier, Kiran and Zaine; and brother, Arthur. He has numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in the Warren area. George was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Elizabeth Herdon; and brothers, Jozsef & Imre.
George was born in Opalyi, Hungry. He immigrated to the United States during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. George attended Howard Trade to further his education in mechanics which resulted in his venture of opening G.H. Tool Company. He worked at Alcon & Firestone in Akron and Terex & General Motors in Hudson. He enjoyed working and fixing things with his hands. George loved the outdoors and being active. During his retirement, he raised sheep on his 30 acre farm.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, July 31st with calling hours at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Road in Rootstown, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. George will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron after the Mass.
