George John Andrico

George John Andrico, 81, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2025 after a brief illness.

George was born in Akron, Ohio to John and Irene Andrico who immigrated from Greece. The youngest of nine siblings, George was proud of his Greek heritage. He served as an altar boy and was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

George was a 1963 graduate of Central High School and from the University of Akron in 1968 with a degree in math which he used to tutor several nieces, nephews, and his daughter.

He lived most of his life in Akron, with brief exceptions to Cincinnati and Virginia. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran stationed in Pleiku and An Khe.

He always loved ice cream which was perfect since he worked making ice cream at Eagle Ice Cream company, and retired from Giant Eagle warehouse. His retirement was filled with listening to classical music, his cats, daily calls with his sister, eating Whopper Jrs, reading about history, and travel. He visited all 50 states.

George is preceded in death by his siblings Christina "Chris" Christoulias, Kalliope "Kal" Nicols, Despina "Des" Mermigas, Theofane Crow, Helen Pamboukis, Theodore "Ted" Andrico, and Trifon "John" Andrico.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years Harriet "Hedy", daughter Katherine "Kathy", sister Demetra "Dee" Mollis, sister-in-law Dorothy "Jan" Andrico, brother-in-law Verne DeVenny, sisters-in-law Cathy (Sam) Farmakidis, and Doris "Dorrie" Bloom, and many loving nephews and nieces.

Everyone who met George liked him. He was full of fascinating stories of growing up in downtown Akron, including seeing celebrities, marble competitions, working in his father's market, and grabbing snacks from the market to go next door to the tv store to watch the making of Disneyland and Mickey Mouse Club shows. Donald Duck was always his favorite.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28, from 5-7PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S Main St in Akron, with a Trisagion at 5:30PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S Union St in Akron. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road in Rittman on Tuesday, September 1 at 12:15PM; if attending, please arrive promptly by 12:00PM.

George was always upset to see homeless or mistreated animals, so in lieu of flowers, please donate to Humane Society of Summit County, or your local animal shelter
