Evelyn Mary Gearhart

Sister Evelyn Mary Gearhart, DSD, passed away on January 9, 2023 at Regina Health Center in Richfield, OH.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on July 12, 1935, Sr. Evelyn attended Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio. Upon graduation, she entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus. She taught school for 15 years in Steubenville, Pittsburgh, New York City and Columbus, Ohio. In 1975 she became Director of Religious Education and Pastoral Associate at St. Timothy Parish in Columbus. She was asked to be the Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Center in Columbus in 1979 and served there for 10 years. During that time, Sr. Evelyn received certification in Spiritual Direction from the Jesuit Retreat Center in Milford, Ohio. She spent two years at Franciscan University in Steubenville earning a Master's degree in Theology in 1991 and spent 10 years doing spiritual direction at St. Mary of the Springs. In 2004, she began a new religious community, the Daughters of St. Dominic, in Steubenville, Ohio. Their ministry is a House of Prayer where they do spiritual Direction.
Sister Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Thomas & Hilda Gearhart. She is survived by her cousins Bonnie (Ed) Farrance & Elaine Forney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 11:00 am at the Chapel at Regina Health Center 5232 Broadview Rd. in Richfield, OH.Visitation will take place one hour prior. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
