Obituary

Emily Agnes Herrick, 98, passed away on March 12 while residing at Rockynoll Retirement Center. Born in Akron on February 19, 1917 to the late Louis and Agnes Moritz, Emily was a lifelong area resident and graduate of St. Vincent's High School. She was a 67 year member of St. Paul's Parish where she also belonged to the Ladies Guild. During World War II she had served in the Womens Army Corp (WAC). For 8 years she had managed Emil's Pizza in Firestone Park. She, however, is remembered for her artistic skills. She volunteered as Arts and Crafts instructor at IBH, and was known as the "Doll Lady" having sewn over 25,000 dolls which were distributed to various charities over the years. Preceded in death by her husband, Steven, she is survived by daughters, Marianne (Jerry) Freymoyer, Helen (Joe) DiGiammarino; sons, Michael (Sharon), Raymond (Kathy), Paul (Theresa), and John (Julie); 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
