ELIZABETH KORNEL DARAGO lived many places across the United States, Canada, and abroad in Europe, but called Akron home. She left us suddenly on February 12, 2025, on her own terms but way too soon!
Elizabeth loved her family & close friends. She put the needs of them before her own. As she traveled the United States for her work with Unisys in the 80s, she returned home many times to be with her mother before her passing in 1987. She enjoyed a good debate, listening to your side while supporting her own. She would tell you what she thought, bluntness was a strong suit, and love you always. She ended all conversations with "what can I do for you?"
Being a late arrival to the Darago family; Elizabeth asked many questions to her family members about the things they had already experienced in life. Some of these questions led to her learning how to be a glider pilot and do car body repair work. Due to all these conversations with her elders, Elizabeth became the keeper of the family stories and traditions. Each conversation you had with her included one of these stories or traditions which she valued passing along to her nieces & nephews. She enjoyed making meals for her family and sending monthly greeting cards through the mail.
Early in life, Elizabeth worked at the family store, Darago Bros. She attended Garfield HS. She earned 2 Masters Degrees and was a Michigan State Spartan through and through! Elizabeth was President of William Penn Association Branch #44 enjoying supporting her community through the Branch #44 activities.
Elizabeth leaves a family who loved her greatly. Preceded in death by parents Joseph Darago, Jr., and Theresa (Varga) Darago, she is survived by her big brother Alex/Sandor (Sharon) Darago. She is mourned by nieces/nephews: Carmen (Sean) Buck; Joe (Christie) Darago & Family; Nikki (Mike) Kepich & Family; Teresa (Doug) Mollohan & Family; Rose (Ben) Bentley & Family; and, Kimi (Chris) Confer & Family. Also, close "cuzins" John (Gretchen) Sudar & Family; Steve (Cathy) Sudar; and Ilona (Dean) Speidel.
A great animal lover, she met her numerous cats, dogs, & a few birds and baby squirrels reuniting "over the rainbow bridge". She remembered herself as the "little blond girl wearing the Hungarian outfit" as depicted in the photo she kept on her phone.
Per her wishes, Elizabeth will be buried with her parents. To honor Elizabeth, in lieu of flowers, please donate to: Best Friends Animal Society by visiting their Memorial Page at bestfriends.org or mailing a donation to PO Box 567, Kanab, UT 84741-0567 OR The Hope Effect by donating at hopeeffect.com or contacting Joe Darago at joe@hopeeffect.com.
