Eleanor Jean (Pressman) Spikerman

August 7, 1931 — February 3, 2024

Eleanor Jean Spikerman, age 92 passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2024. Eleanor was born in Akron, Ohio on August 7th, 1931, to the late Bernard and Anne Pressman. She grew up in Firestone Park, attended St. Paul's Catholic grade school, graduating from Garfield High School in 1949. She enjoyed jumping rope with Sister Genevieve, playing tennis in the park, and cheering on the Garfield Golden Rams as a cheerleader. Eleanor was loyal to the Akron community by helping to organize both the St. Paul's and Garfield class reunions for many years. She married the love of her life on November 14th, 1951, George D. Spikerman. They enjoyed dancing the night away at Puffy's to the iconic music of the Big Bands. All eyes were on them, and she loved it! Later in life they could be found at Tangier's with Phil Palumbo as the headliner. Eleanor enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Europe, not passing up the glamorous opportunity to "put her face on", her finest dress and beautiful jewelry. She looked like a Hollywood Star, especially when she wore her mink coat. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, gardening and a round of golf. Eleanor loved a good sale, shopping at Kohls or Macy's, going to estate sales and thrifting at Goodwill. As a mother, she was a force, raising her children to be strong, independent and to have a mind of their own, just like her.
Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George D. "Spike" Spikerman, step-daughter Dianne Spikerman Nickell, step-grandchildren Darcy Nickell and Philip Huber, brother John Pressman, along with her best friends JoAnne Hughes, Margie Hrisko, and Jeanne Marhofer. She is survived by children George D. Spikerman Jr.; Lisa (Andrew) Lepera and their children Nick, Andrea, and Alex (Danielle); David (Mary) Spikerman, and his children Ashley, Amber and Andrew; Julie (Mark) Gutentag and their children Sam (Megan and their daughter Ruby), Aaron ( Erin and their daughter Edison) , Jonah, Olivia (fiancée Eric Schmidt) and Max. Step-daughter Michelle Spikerman Huber Marr and her children Aaron Huber and Bryan Huber; sister Janice (Pressman) Davis, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, special friends Pauline Lake, Pat Letta, and neighborhood friends.
