Elaine Forney, 78 of Canton passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 14, 2025. Elaine was born on September 5, 1946, to the late Cornelius (Eugene) and Pauline Gearhart. She grew up in Akron, OH and attended St. Paul grade school, and graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in 1964. She was a devoted Catholic, eucharistic minister, and carried her faith to anyone in need, often on the side of the road. She took great pride in her children who she lovingly referred to as her "Five"." She was a proud Canton resident and never missed an opportunity to volunteer for the Hall of Fame enshrinement committee and festival. As a board of elections volunteer she consistently ensured all were able to vote. She was a true artist who saw color and creative opportunity in all she touched. While it may not have been obvious to all, her family understood that her creative spirit ran deep in all that she did.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert C. Forney, and siblings, Janet, Richard and Gregg.
She is survived by her five children Karen (Kenneth) Hughes, Kristine Forney (James Clary), Dr. Michael (Faye) Forney, Matthew (Danielle) Forney, Megan Forney; grandchildren, Ben, Teddy, Timmy, AJ, Hannah, Robbie, Ruby and Elliot, sister Bonnie Farrance, Kris Newlin (best friend of 71 years), and caring companion Dennis DiNarda.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025, from 11:30-12:45 PM at The Anthony Funeral Homes 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church. A private burial will be held.
