Edwina Marie (Stoltz) Wagner

June 25, 1930 — December 6, 2020

Edwina M. Wagner (Win) was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 6th, with her children by her side. We are so grateful to the staff at Medina Hospital who cared for her and allowed us to be with her as she passed.

She was born on June 25, 1930 in Chest Springs, PA along with her twin sister, Edri, who died in infancy. She grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, graduating in 1948 from Falls High, and married her husband Gene in 1950. Together they raised their family in the Falls and Stow, moving back to the Falls in 1978. When Gene died in1992, she made her way to Norton where she lived for several years until declining eyesight forced her to move to assisted living, first at Copley Place and then at The Inn at Coal Ridge in Wadsworth. We are grateful to the staff there who cared for her this past year as the pandemic ensued.

Win was preceded in death by the above mentioned as well as her parents, Jacob E. and Geraldine C. Stoltz, her step-father, John Spencer, her older brother Jimmy who died in early childhood, her son-in-law Louie Szabo, and grandson Shaun Finn. She is survived by her children: Joe (Nancy) of Seattle along with their sons, Spencer and Lowell; Terri Finn (John) of Doylestown and their children, Brian, Eric (Lora) and son Brady, Jonathan (Amanda) and son Hunter, Aidan (Sarah) and son Camden; Marybeth Szabo of Stow and her children Jennifer, Christopher, and Alex (Melissa); and Dan of Akron. She is also survived by her siblings Charles (Bud) Stoltz (Joan), Norma Derbfuss (George), Marion (Mickey) Quier, and Glenn (Bucky) Stoltz and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In her early working years, Win worked for the Operating Engineers where in time, she became the first female dispatcher. She left there to work at the University of Akron in the Special Programs Dept. where she again rose to the top and worked alongside the professors in the creation of the non-credit class offerings. After retiring from there in 1993, she didn't sit back and rest, but chose to spend her life helping others, first as a Guardian Ad Litem, a program that advocates for children during court cases, and then as a volunteer with the then Visiting Nurse Service at the Hospice Center on Ridgewood Rd. There she worked in the filing dept and also assisted anyone needing help sorting out their medical bills. She was named the Volunteer of the Year in 1996! In addition to these, she served for several years as a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship at Northampton Baptist Church.

Win and Gene enjoyed nearly lifelong friendships with a group they simply called "Club". They met once a month on a Saturday night at each other's homes for many, many years. She was one of the last of this group to find her way home. When she moved to Norton, she became a member of Grace Church and enjoyed fellowship with her dear friends in the Widow's Group. We loved to tease and joke with her and she was always a good sport about it. She was an avid reader, especially historical fiction. She knew her history and politics! Win was an animal lover and was never without a pet cat or dog. She raised her children with a strong sense of respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness and we will all be forever grateful for that. It gives us joy to know that she is now at peace in her permanent home where she can again see and hear. We love her dearly and will miss her always. John 14:1-4.
