Edwin Shanafelt

Edwin Shanafelt, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014.
He was born in Akron and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Europe. Mr. Shanafelt retired from Continental Tire after over 20 years of service. He liked all sports. He especially liked fishing with his friends in Canada and enjoyed golf with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leeser and Rena Shanafelt; sister, Judith Stillmayer; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Marge Shanafelt; mother-in-law, Isabelle Hall; brother-in-law, Harry Hall; nephew, Kurt Hall; and son-in-law, Dr. Robert Dunnerstick. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alberta (Hall); son, Dave (Claudia) Hall; daughters, Debbie Dunnerstick, Kim (Austin) Schaffter and Holly Fisher; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Ave. Akron, Ohio 44312 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. Fr. Michael Williamson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333.
