Dr. Joseph "Joe" Mark Stewart, M.D., age 63, of Poinciana, Florida, passed away on June 23, 2025.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly Stewart, and their three children: Matthew Stewart, of Nashville, Tennessee, and his wife Christina, with their three daughters: Gabriella, Thérèse, and Magdalene; Michael Stewart, of Rockford, Michigan, and his wife Jessica, with their daughter Audrey; Whitney White Self, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her husband Tyler. He is also survived by his loving siblings: John Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Joan Zbin, Edward Stewart, and David Stewart.
Joe was born in Akron, Ohio, to John and Marcelene Stewart. He spent much of his adult life in Rockford, Illinois, where he built a long and respected career as an OB/GYN. He graduated from medical school in 1989 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Akron General Medical Center in 1993. Over the next 32 years, Joe established thriving practices in Rockford and later in Central Florida, where he completed his career.
Joe was devoted to his patients and passionate about advancing his surgical skills, especially in robotics. He was trusted and respected by all who knew him.
Outside of his profession, Joe had many talents and interests. He enjoyed working outdoors, landscaping, renovating parts of the home, and tackling projects big and small. He could fix just about anything-even if he was the one who broke it.
Joe and Shelly shared a love for travel and time by the ocean-his happy place: riding the waves body surfing. He found joy in staying active, often doing pool workouts to the music of The Beatles. Joe also had a great sense of humor and a lasting love for Quentin Tarantino films. Joe often quoted movie lines from Pulp Fiction and Family Man to name a couple of his favorites.
He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the people he cared for, the laughter he shared, and the values he instilled.
