IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dr. Ann S.
Hickin
August 24, 1940 – March 4, 2024
Dr. Ann S. Hickin -08/24/1940 – 03/04/2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Hickin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Ann, born in Akron and later residing in Stow, passed away on March 4, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and notable achievements.
Ann's journey began at Holy Family School, where her passion for education and love for music blossomed. She continued her studies at Our Lady of the Elms, Akron, Ohio on a full scholarship, graduating with honors. Her commitment to caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing at St. Vincent Charity Hospital.
A devout Catholic, Ann's faith played a significant role in her life. Fate intertwined her path with Jack Hickin during her school years. Ann met Jack again when he arrived as a patient at St. Thomas Hospital. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1963, marking the commencement of a remarkable loving partnership that spanned over six decades.
Ann's nursing career was not only a profession but a calling. After taking time to raise their family, she returned to nursing, eventually becoming a Certified Critical Care Nurse. Her insatiable love of learning propelled her to achieve her bachelor's in nursing from Akron University and later her Ph.D. from Kent State University. In a testament to her unwavering dedication, Ann transitioned into Child Psychology, where she established a thriving practice for more than a decade of supporting traumatized children. Her expertise was often sought in courtrooms, where she served as an expert witness, advocating for the well-being of the vulnerable.
Compassionate, dedicated, moral, and devoted to her husband and family, Ann's special qualities were shared between her personal and professional lives. She was the heart and soul of the Hickin family, a matriarch whose love knew no bounds. Ann is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Jack Hickin, and their children Joe Hickin (Debbie), Jacki Kittinger (Tim), Amy Jordan (Jim), Mark Hickin (Rachel), John Hickin (Kerin), and Lisa Hickin (Jim). Additionally, she leaves behind 10
siblings (1 deceased), 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom were touched by her warmth and wisdom.
Ann Hickin's legacy will forever shine through the countless lives she touched, the love she shared, and the compassionate care she provided to those in need. May she rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all.
