Dorothy Elizabeth (Groundwater) Smith

Dorothy Elizabeth (Groundwater) Smith, 98, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. Dorothy was born October 30, 1926 in Yonkers, New York, one of seven children of the late John and Mary (Hogan) Groundwater.

Dorothy is survived by her children David (Linda) Smith, Dianne Smith, Brian (Gail) Smith, Kimberly (Michael) Hastings, Karen (Colby) Tuttle and Geoffrey (Linda) Smith; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and her brother Donald Groundwater. She was predeceased by her daughter Pamela Lubben and her siblings John, Robert, Jean, Mary and Margaret Ann.

Dorothy graduated from Cochran School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for the Veterans Administration. Dorothy and her family lived in several states until settling in Massachusetts. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling with her sisters, and being the matriarch at family gatherings. Dorothy will be remembered for the gleam in her eye as she was delivering one-line zingers to family members.

Dorothy's family will be holding a private gathering to celebrate her life.
