Dorothy Joanne Bowman-Takacs, 86 of Peninsula went home to be with Jesus on July 10, 2026.
Dorothy was born on August 2, 1939, to the late Robert and Imogene (Saddler) Griffin.
She was a retired 1st grade teacher from St. Hilary Catholic grade school. Dorothy was a very involved member of Immaculate Heart of Mary. She served on parish council; she was lay minister and served on a number of other organizations within the parish. She was also a 3rd order Franciscan.
Dorothy embraced life with enthusiasm and had many hobbies and interests, especially traveling, gardening, and creating joyful memories with those around her. She had a gift for making people smile and was known for her warm personality, lively conversations, and infectious sense of humor. Dorothy truly was one of a kind-a memorable character whose presence brightened every room. One of her greatest joys was dressing up as "Sunny the Clown" to entertain children at birthday parties, where she delighted countless young faces with laughter, fun, and happiness. Her kind heart and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Dorothy is preceded in death by her first husband John Richard Bowman in 2001; second husband Carl Hubert Takacs in 2018; brother Terry Griffin and grandson Grant Curtis Gross.
Dorothy is survived by her 5 children, John (Michele) Bowman, Jeff Bowman, Joy Gidley (Steve), Jack (Vikki) Bowman, Jennifer (Curt) Gross; grandchildren, Tori, Tyler (Kimmy), Allie, Alec, Angela (Mike), Jessica (Jonathan), Nicole (Alex) Kaitlyn, Skylar, Taylor, Morgan (Logan), Luke, Jill and several great-grandchildren.
In lieu flower donations can be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church - Cuyahoga Falls.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5-8pm at the Anthony Funeral Homes - Falls Chapel 247 Stow Ave, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, a graveside service will immediately follow at Northampton Cemetery.
