Doris Thanos, 100, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.
Doris was born in Massillon, OH on October 1, 1925 to the late Nick & Angeline Fostines. She was a 1944 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. Doris retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. She was a member of Annuciation Greek Orthodox Church, where she volunteered for the Thursday luncheons.Mom loved to dance and sing. She went out dancing every chance she got. She even danced in the car, to her boogie woogie music , old sweet ballads, and Rock n Roll. After retirement, she walked to Rimer school where she earned an award from Akron Public Schools for helping kids with reading skills. She liked to travel. Her Hawaii trip was one of her favorites-"I'm so tired because I haven't closed my eyes for 10 days. I didn't want to miss anything". She loved her turquoise jewelry from a road trip out west many years ago in an old pickup truck . Mom forgave everything, showing her grace and integrity. She didn't yell but if we heard her talking very very softly, we knew one us was in trouble. We learned our lessons well: there will always be someone who needs something more than we do, Be Kind, depend on yourself first because you can do anything, give to others without calling attention to yourself, wear happy colors so your vision impaired family can enjoy the color!, and never leave home without your lipstick ! We heard " see a pin and pick it up, and all the day you'll have good luck ", (she usually had a couple safety or straight pins on her shirt ! )"Get a wiggle on, "I'll be right here", and "Oh Barbara, I worry about you". Thanks Mom, we will do our best to carry on . " I'd like some coffee please, just half a cup". S'agapo' Mom's neighbors were always watching out for her. Thank you Jared, Henry, Nancy, Marilyn and especially Terry and Pat.We will always remember the kindness of her care givers from the Hospice and Palliative Care teams at Akron General. With the love and care of her family, Mom was able to stay in her sweet home to live her amazing life.
