Doris Ann (Cobb) Nelson

Doris A. Nelson, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Doris was born in New Hope, Alabama and moved to the Akron area as a young girl. She worked as a secretary for Pearl Coffee for many years. She was a wonderful pianist with a love for gospel music. She loved using her singing and musical gifts to serve the Lord and was a faithful, dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church in Akron. She was also a member of Widow's Might at Grace Baptist and volunteered her musical talents at Haven of Rest Ministries. She was a valuable part of the Akron Baptist temple choir program for over 21 years. Doris was a blessing to many and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Ethel Cobb; husband Elwood Nelson; siblings Sam Cobb Jr. and Carrie Thrasher; and precious sons Jeff and Kevin Nelson. She is survived by her children Danny Nelson of Ft. Myers, FL, Tracy Nelson of Canton, MI, Brian (Val) Nelson of Green, OH, grandchildren Tyler (Stephanie) Nelson of Stow, OH, Jason (Erin) Nelson of Green, OH, Stephanie Merlo (Derek) of Wyandotte, MI, Stephen Merlo of Chicago, IL, Ashley (Mark) Calabrese of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Rachel Nelson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, & Carley Nelson of Green, OH, great-grandchildren Gabriella, Zachary, Liam, Ethan, & Anthony; and many loved ones and dear friends. And a special thank you to devoted friends Zoe Ann Boring and Betty Combs.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301 were at 11:30 a.m. a Memorial will be held to celebrate Doris' life by Pastor Bob Stephens. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church Akron, 704 N Firestone Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44306.
