Donald L. Keener, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 28, 2025.
Don was born in Richwood, WV on January 4, 1934 to the late Paul & Pearl Keener. In 1953, after graduating from high school, Don moved to the Akron area and started a 39 year career working for Goodyear Tire & Rubber at both the Aerospace Division and the Stow Mold Plant, retiring in 2001. Don was a member of the Ellet Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years and was currently a member of the Tallmadge Church of the Nazarene.
Don enjoyed riding his bike with all of his family (especially his grandchildren who couldn't keep up) & friends (Lowell, Ned, & Roger) on all of the Northeast Ohio bike trails. Don loved family and church gatherings. He enjoyed watching the wildlife in his yard and was a cheesecake enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings Sandra Tharpe & Tom Keener; sister-in-law Erma Keener. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Selva 'Joy'; his children Donald Lynn (Valerie), Tim, Kathy (Donald) Turner, & Debbie (Jeff) Mills; grandchildren Brian, Kevin, Andrew, Nicole, Rachel, Brandon, Elaina, Ashleigh, & John; great-grandchildren Tristin, Aleigha, Alexia, Gabriel, Maverick, Annie, & Alora Grace; brothers Doug (Bonnie) & David 'Scrappy' Keener; sister Sharon Keener Bennett.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, Nov. 3, 11 am, with the family receiving friends for one hour prior, at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Don's memory to the Tallmadge Church of the Nazarene 191 S. Munroe Tallmadge, OH 44278.
