Donald Carl Flaker, Sr., 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 surrounded by his family.
He was born and raised in Akron, Ohio graduating from Kenmore High School. Post-high school, he served in the Naval Reserve. He was a Railroad Engineer on the Akron Barberton Belt Line Railroad. He then started his own business as an Electrical Contractor, retiring in 1994. Don had an unwavering love for the Lord and was a witness for Christ. He began attending Goss Memorial Church at the age of three, where he was a member and served as a Church Elder. He was an avid self-taught tennis player, where he won numerous titles and was ranked #1 in NE Ohio. He owned land in Southern Ohio where he loved spending time working in the woods, sitting by the pond, enjoying campfires, and spending time with family. One of his greatest joys was the 30-year ritual of seeing his family for lunch every Saturday at Taco Bell.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Leah Flaker; son, David Flaker; and sister, Dorothy Ramsey. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Glenda Flaker; children, Donald Carl (Liz) Flaker, Jr., Glenda (Buck) Buchanan, Anthony Flaker, Sr., Rebecca (Richard) Angerstein, Benjamin (Linda) Flaker and Kathleen (Chris) Weaver; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren - with one on the way; daughter-in-law, Denee Schorle; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Goss Memorial Church, 2247 11th St. SW, Akron, Ohio 44314. Pastor Casey Hughes officiating.
